Events
International Society on Thrombosis & Haemostasis (ISTH) Congress 2024 in Bangkok
At this year's ISTH Congress three poster abstracts were led and co-authored by Dr. Othman's lab mentees including Regan Bucciol, Claire Bunker, Aditi Kini, Yousra Tera, Salah Elsherif, Adham Elsherbini, Ali Zidan, and Stefania Coroneos. One oral abstract was presented by Thomas Kazmirchuk PhD, a collabortion project with Dr. Ashkan Golshani's Lab at Carleton University. 
Dr. Maha Othman lectured at four scientific standardization committees and presented data on projects supported by the ISTH's Women's Health, DIC, and Scientific Committees.

Congratulations to Natalie Kearn for being accepted into the School of Medicine at Queen's University, and to Ali Zidan and Adham El-Sherbini for their acceptance at Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto!

ISLH 2024 Nantes 
Mentees Regan Bucciol, Yousra Tera, Alyssa Qian, Armita Zandi, Adham Elsherbini, Ali Zidan, Stefania Coroneos, Claire Bunker, Hannah Parante, Salah Elsherif, and Aditi Kini produced amazing work that was featured at the ISLH, including four poster presentation. Two awards were also received!

Two lab members were awarded travel awards to attend the International Symposium on Technical Innovations in Laboratory Hematology in Nantes, France! Congratulations to Yousra Tera ("ABO blood groups, hypercoagulability and thrombosis risk in women with cancer undergoing chemotherapy") and Regan Bucciol ("Evaluating Predictive Tools for Thrombosis Risk Assessment in Breast Cancer - Unmet Need")

Amazing collaborative work by Dr. Othman and Thomas Kazmirchuk, Ph.D, at Queen's University and Carelton University, done on Platelet Type Von Willebrand Disease (PT-VWD) was featured on the ISTH Congress Daily News.

8th annual Tri-campus Synapse Nursing Symposium
Held on June 12th, 2024 the event was once again a wonderful testimony of the strength of the BScN/PN programs St. Lawrence College. Impressive work was produced by Dr. Othman's students at SLC including Isabella Isbester, Tanya Larivire, Grace Guigue, Emilie Yates, and Nora Ayling. Regan Bucciol presented her internationally recognized 4th year thesis project. MSc student, Deirdre Finnigan presented novel data on cancer associated anemia and red cell function. Dr. Othman also presented posters on behalf of other mentees including Alyssa Qian, Armita Zandi, Dhruv Shah, and Adham Elsherbini.

Queen's Cancer Research Institute Retreat 2024

Othman Lab mentees attended the QCRI Retreat, for what is now known as the Sinclair Cancer Research Institute. Four posters were presented by Deirdre Finnigan, Jordan Harry, Adham Elsherbini, and Regan Bucciol. Two astounding flash talk presentations were given by Deirdre Finnigan and Jordan Harry. An award was given to Jordan Harry for her excellent presentation at the event.

Student Anne Fu Receives $5000 Research Award
Congrats to Anne Fu, the 2024 recepient of the Weaver/Howe Summer Studentship in Cancer Research. She'll be conducting her project this summer with Dr. Othman. More details to come!

Ali Zidan celebrated for COVID literature review

Ali Zidan received an award from Seminars in Thrombosis & Haemostasis for his review article "Zidan A, Noureldin A, Kumar SA, Elsebaie A, Othman M. COVID-19 Vaccine-Associated Immune Thrombosis and Thrombocytopenia (VITT): Diagnostic Discrepancies and Global Implications. Semin Thromb Hemost. 2023 Feb;49(1):9-14,” winning one of two Eberhard F Mammen Seminars in Thrombosis and Hemostasis 2024 Most Popular Article Awards for the ‘Free to download' Category. This award carries a cash prize of $1000US.

ASURF (Arts & Science Undergraduate Research Fund) was implemented to foster a community amongst undergraduate scholars and promote a greater investment in undergraduate research. Sajida Kazi, a member of our Global Research & Mentorship Group (GRMG), won the 2022 Eberhard F. Mammen Young Investigator Award

This is an award organized by the editors in chief at Seminars Thrombosis and Haemostasis journal. This award recognizes a young investigator with outstanding performance in an international conference. Sajida was nominated for her outstanding abstract and oral presentation at ISTH 2021.
